Most experts suggest daily flossing as it can considerably reduce the chances of plaque transforming into bacteria.

Once again, extreme care must be taken while flossing. The dental floss you use must be properly cleaned. Make sure you are not forcing it too deep into the gums as it can result in injuries that can in turn increase the chances of infections. Excessive flossing can also widen the gap between your teeth. Naturally, this also increases the accumulation of plaque and bacteria.

Visit Your Dentist – Gum disease typically begins with minor symptoms that are often overlooked by the patient. In order to prevent these symptoms from turning into severe conditions, a regular visit to a dentist is extremely necessary. You should get a proper dental check up at least every three months. In many cases, the dentist might also suggest a thorough professional cleaning which is still a less expensive option than other treatments.

Also, stay a little more alert regarding your oral health and keep an eye out for symptoms such as occasional bleeding and swelling of gums, discoloration, and increased sensitivity.

Avoid Tobacco – Tobacco and smoking have a disastrous impact on overall oral health. Tobacco contains harmful toxins that eat away all the natural enamel and protective layers of the teeth. Smoking, as a matter of fact, can interfere with the ongoing oral treatment reducing and often completely eradicating its effectiveness.
