Saline and Silicone Breast Implants

Saline and Silicone Breast Implants

When speaking of breast augmentation surgery, one of the three options available is saline breast implants. The two remaining options are the new soybean oil-filled alternative and the silicone implants.

The saline implants usually come in various shapes and sizes, along with a shell made of silicone rubber that is either filled while the surgical procedure is ongoing or pre-filled with saline solution of a certain amount.

Even though silicone and saline implants are equally popular, a lot of people believe that the silicone type provides a much more natural and realistic feel since it imitates the feel of actual and real breast tissue. Saline implants, on the other hand, have the more tendencies to wrinkle up and leak. The upside of it, however, is that formations of scar tissue or capsular contractures are less likely to happen after surgery when saline breast implants are used. Furthermore, a saline leak is actually far less harmful to your body compared to a silicone leak.

But still, one cannot just brush aside certain health risks when using saline breast implants. These risks can include loss of sensation in the nipples, asymmetry, infection, deflation, ruptures, undesirable results, and many other local complications. One important point to remember is that these saline implants will not last forever. It is most likely that you will have those implants taken out at a certain point because of a rupture or some other kinds of issues. In addition, breast augmentation surgery using saline breast implants is not actually covered by health insurance policies. Thus, with the necessary follow-up visits that you will be making plus operations, the expenses can really build up.

For those individuals who are not that daring to take chances on health complications and problems, who do not want to have to deal with undesirable outcomes, or pay high costs, there are other alternatives. Already getting a little more popular nowadays is natural breast enlargement. There has been a noticeable increase in the scientific evidence as to the efficiency of some herbal supplements in enhancing bust size. Though there are still more tests that need to be performed, the results gathered so far are very promising. So a word of advice, before thinking about having saline implants or any other type of surgical augmentation procedure, make sure to ask and consult your doctor. They will lay down all the options for you to be able to come up with an informed decision.

As mentioned earlier, silicone breast implants provide a more realistic and natural feel compared to the saline variety since it uses a special gel that imitates natural breast tissue. However, as per recent situations, silicone implants can only be used for reconstructive and revision surgeries or operations, and are not being used in new augmentation procedures.

The reason behind this is that, because of several potential health complexities, only the saline implants are made available. This is because if silicone gel escapes into your bloodstream, it causes more serious problems than saline solution.
